These are a few of my favorite blogs

by Samantha Hartley on December 3, 2008

People often ask me which blogs I read, just as they used to ask my favorite marketing books.  I read a LOT of blogs, but these come to mind first (and, since I subscribe to many of them, they come to my inbox almost daily):

1. Seth Godin’s blog, http://sethgodin.typepad.com/ Seth is distinctive looking and has the brand to match.  His blog is unique in that he doesn’t allow comments, so it’s more about his observations than a conversation with his tribe.  His posts are easy to read and enjoy and very thought-provoking.  I loved this recent one: http://tinyurl.com/6bgvyq

2.  ProBlogger, http://www.problogger.net/ Darren Rowse is an Australian guy who makes a living running a number of blogs.  He’s incredibly generous with information, and you could learn everything you need to know about marketing a business online from this one blog. It should cost money to read this blog. If you can’t figure out how anyone is a professional blogger and you want your eyes to fall out of your head in shock, read just this one post:

3.  Copyblogger, http://www.copyblogger.com/ Brian Clark is a former lawyer who blogs about writing blogs, but just as ProBlogger’s lessons are good for marketing in general, Brian’s work is good for anyone who wants to write better.  Writing is such a crucial part of marketing effectively, and Brian combines classic lessons about copywriting with best practices for what works today.  A good sample reading from him is http://www.copyblogger.com/magnetic-headlines/

4.  Zen Habits, http://zenhabits.net/ Leo Babauta writes a lovely blog about living a simpler life and trying to be a better person in all those small ways that make a big difference.  To get an idea of what’s covered in this incredibly popular blog, start here: http://tinyurl.com/6rak4n.  Just in case it looks like he’s mostly a lifestyle guy who happened to hit it big online, here’s Leo revealing his marketing genius in one of the best posts I’ve read on Problogger: http://tinyurl.com/66mmdm

5. Lolcats and Loldogs, http://icanhascheezburger.com/ and http://ihasahotdog.com/ Belly laughing is good for mind, body and soul, so I try to glance at these blogs every few days. Great ROI – a few seconds and I’m back to 100%.  This one just made me laugh till I cried: http://tinyurl.com/6×7hx9

I’ll be sure to share more blogs soon, but how about you?  Which blogs keep you in the loop, up to date and off the ledge?

PS Dang! Now I have Julie Andrews stuck in my head.
